My new song Destiny is now available!
This one is my first "different" song from what you've heard so far...
When I played it for the first time to my amazing acolytes Mark "MusicMan" Gibson & Pascal "Atomas" Lavallée at the studio, they were surprised. This was early on in our relationship and they did not know that my sound was so varied. Now they expect every song I bring them to be different. This is good.
So, Destiny?.. I composed this song in the summer of 2017. It was faster. I was exploring my background as a child growing up in Africa, and of my love of music from around the world. It existed as an instrumental. It was always in the back of my mind... until I got the inspiration. Where it needed to go musically. I wanted a quiet voice, something different from my "loud" voice. I wanted quiet, talked, almost whispered. As a gentle reminder of the way things are and how they can be.
I heard vocalizations in my head, so I recorded them. My voice has a good range. I can sign high, I can sing low. I love harmony, so I recorded layers of voices.
The Cover for the single is a stylized Mandala I got from vecteezy.com (Free plug, but I use their free service all the time. So I think a shoutout is only fair!) I had my photographer Danny Landry take a shot of me doing a Yoga pose. I love Yoga. Exercise for the body and the soul.
I think the intersection of the song and Yoga harmonizes naturally.
(Full disclosure: I'm not a Yoga fanatic, I just enjoy it, simply. I have no special clothes for it. Truthfully, I haven't done it in a while so I want to start doing it again.)
The song is about empowerment and Karma. You reap what you sow. If you are ready, the results will follow. That is destiny.
The Roman philosopher Seneca reasoned that “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."
That is what this song is about.
